The US and German ambassadors were mad with the fact that their money which they had donated towards the constitution reform was being wasted.

In hindsight it clearly looks like the whole event was a state sponsored vacation for those sitting on the commission. After wasting donor and public funds, we had a constitution that was designed to serve one man, and one man alone (maybe with his family): Chiluba. It was aimed at weakening all his political rivals in a desperate attempt to immortalize his stays in power.

I get the same feeling about this man in State House today. Mwanawasa would be in the best political position to create a lasting constitution given that he is in his last term. You would say he has nothing to lose or gain since the new constitution will not affect his presidency. But the fact that he decided to toss the input of the nation entails he is on the same path that Chiluba took. But like his friend who planted him in power after disregarding the will of the people, he will have a rude awakening. He will be evicted from State House like his predecessor.

We have had presidents who have a lot of contempt for the constitution. One would forgive Chiluba, for having no traceable education, but for a lawyer of Mwanawasa's stature to do the same, I find it treasonable.nkhula21https://www.blogger.com/profile/07921022055384510715noreply@blogger.com
